The cloud forests represent unique and precious ecosystems that cover a relatively small territory, but are as rich in their biological diversity as the low altitude tropical ombrophilous forests. They have considerable biological value both because of the native species that grow there and because of their ecosystems, which are precious genetic reservoirs.

The Amazonian cloud forests have been relatively protected up to now as they were sufficiently remote and difficult to reach. Today they are threatened.
